Difficulties &
Hardships
I am sure most of us have gone through or are going through very
difficult times in our lives, and often at such times we are not able to reflect
that everything that happens, happens for a reason. I wish to share with you a
short article written by a sister, which reminded me of this in a beautiful
way. /\/\
The sister wrote:
SubhanAllah today I have been guided to the realisation that some duas which
have not yet been answered and tests that we go through are in fact a blessing
in disguise. That although it saddens us when calamity strikes or the response
to our duas seems so far, I have realised that in and of themselves these tests
and difficulties are something for our best. So far I have never read this
concept explained as beautifully as below by the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Al Qayyim
who writes (from The Dua: Weapon of the Believer p168 Yasir Qadhi):
"The Divine Decree related to the believer is always a bounty, even if it is in
the form of withholding (something that is desired), and it is a blessing, even
if it appears to be a trial, and an affliction that has befallen him is in
reality a cure, even though it appears to be a disease!
Unfortunately, due to the ignorance of the worshipper and his transgressions, he
does not consider anything to be a gift or a blessing or a cure unless he can
enjoy it immediately, and it is in accordance with his nature.
If he were only given a little bit of understanding, then he would have counted
being withheld from as a blessing, and the sickness as a mercy, and he would
relish the trouble that befalls him more than he relishes his ease, and he would
enjoy poverty more than he enjoys richness, and he would be more thankful when
he is blessed with little than he is when he is blessed with a lot."
Madarij al-Salikin 2/215-216
As mothers may well be aware, there are times that your child will beg you
sweetly for something and you'll respond by granting their wish but there are
also times that your child will beg you for something and you'll withhold it
from them because you know that thing they wish for in ignorance and naivety may
harm them. To Allah swt belongs the highest example. My sister, does Allah swt
not love you more than your mother? Then understand in His swt's Mercy, Wisdom,
Generosity, He swt may put you in hardship for your betterment...He swt may
afflict you with difficulty for your benefit...and perhaps He swt will withhold
a blessing from you to save you from a worse trial and hardship.
"For it is possible that you hate something, yet Allah places in it a lot of
good (for you)." s4v19
And when we look at our individual situations through this perspective, we
become innately more diligent at leaving our affair to Allah swt, because we
trust His judgement absolutely because we realise that everything that happens
to us is for our best.
